For the past week now we have been reading a graphic novel, The Best We Could Do, by Thi Bui. The book is about the authors life, but has a strong focus on her family and their past. The build up to chapter seven (page 210) was very interesting. Thi puts a huge emphasis on her father, and how he was raised. There was one page I found very interesting, but a little disturbing. This was page 29. In the second box from the top is a family photo - showing all of the characters, but two of the sisters are colored in black as if they were no longer part of the family. As I kept reading I found that two of Ma’s (Thi’s mother) daughters had past away. Overall I really enjoy the book but I am still unsure about how I feel about the eerie story line.
I really enjoyed the Oral History Project. One of my favorite parts of this project was the preparation. We had to pick who were going to interview, set up interview, write out questions, and assign jobs (note taker, speaker, audio, visual recording, etc.) On the other hand I did not so much enjoy the transcribing. To future students doing this project I would have to recommend getting your part of the assignment done on time and not leaving it up to your group members to finish your part of the assignment. I feel that I have learned a lot from this project. I have learned how to better work and communicate with my classmates, and also how much preparation matters.
